Mirabilia Bead Conversions

PLEASE READ FIRST

These are my own conversions for the beads used in these two Mirabilia designs. Every Delica mentioned is a Size 11 unless otherwise noted (with a 'Size 15' in parentheses).  Also, anything marked with an * means you need to read the notes below the conversions.

I've written a few notes for you, but I recommend you take a look at the beads first before you begin.  Conversions are sometimes based on personal taste (like the issues I've mentioned in my notes) so I recommend taking the Mill Hill beads with you when you go to the bead store.  If you don't have a bead store, you can see the colors of Delicas at Caravan Beads website.  But do be careful, looking at beads online is a bit like looking at hand-dyed fabrics and threads online:  What you see on the monitor may not be exactly what you get.

That said, perhaps my conversions will give you a good starting point.

Fairy Moon
Mill Hill 00161 to Delica DB051
Mill Hill 02017 to Delica DB083
Mill Hill 03025 to Delica DB312
Mill Hill 02026 to Delica DB257

All of them are a perfect match, except for Mill Hill 02026. There is a very distinct difference between the original bead and the color I chose. The new color is much more blue than the original. I haven't found a perfect match for it, and I may yet replace it if I find a better one. If not, I'll go ahead and use the DB257. I would recommend taking a package of the MH02026 with you to your bead store; you may find something more suitable

Autumn Queen
Mill Hill 2011 to Delica DB-042
Mill Hill 3048 to Delica DB-924
Mill Hill 3050 to Delica DB-1203
Mill Hill 0561 to Delica DB-426

There is a slight difference in the finish on the conversion for MH 03048. The Mill Hill bead has a rainbow finish (think of a light AB coating on top of the color) to it, while the Delica has a sparkle finish (very shiny, but not colored). You can hardly tell though. I'm not a fan of the rainbow finish anyway.

Winter Queen
Mill Hilll 145 to Delica DB1405*
Mill Hill 2026 to Delica DB1250* or DB257*
Mill Hill Petite 40479 to Delica (size 15)  DBS-201
Mill Hill Petite 42010 to Delica (size 15) DBS 15-01

There is quite a difference between MH145 -DB1405.  The DB1405 is *much* more blue.  While I have listed it, please consider the color difference before you stitch into your Winter Queen.  I will wait until I get to that point in beading and see how it looks before I put it in. I may just have to stay with the Mill Hill's on this one.

This is also quite a difference between MH2026 and the DB1250 and DB257.  Again, they're much more blue.  Same as above:  While I have listed it, please consider the color difference before you stitch into your Winter Queen. I will wait until I get to that point in beading and see how it looks before I put it in. I may just have to stay with the Mill Hill's on this one, too. (Phooey).

Spring Queen
Mill Hill 2001 to Delica DB-1531
Mill Hill 2011 to Delica DB-042
Mill Hill 3002 to Delica DB-1005
Mill Hill 3053 to Delica DB-1004
Mill Hill 3055 to Delica*
Mill Hill 3057 to Delica DB-1481

For Mill Hill 3055, I could not find a good match at my local bead store (which has a really huge selection of Delicas, so I was a bit surprised).  The closest I could come was DB607, which is a dyed bead.  The color is much more of a vibrant green than the Mill Hill 3055.  I went ahead and bought the DB607 because I really liked the color anyway, so if I decide not to use it for Spring Queen, I can always use it elsewhere (like my other obsession:  beading!).  If I do find a better match, I blog about it and come here to make the correction.

Summer Queen
Mill Hill 3050 to Delica DB 1203
Mill Hill 3053 to DB-1004
Mill Hill 3054 to DB-1571
Mill Hill 3057 to DB-1481

These were all pretty good matches.  There is a very subtle variations between MH3053 to DB1004..  The DB-1005 has a sparkle finish to it that makes is shinier than the Mill Hill 3053.  Same with the MH3057 to DB1481.  Also the DB-1481 has a smidgen more of a 'coral' sense to it, but only a little.  Again, use your own tastes when deciding what to use for your conversions.

August Peridot Fairy
Mill Hill 00165 to DB0075
Mill Hill 02038 to DB0144
Mill Hill 02014 to DB0010
Mill Hill 00252 to DB1755
Mill Hill 02009 to DB1577
Mill Hill 18812 to Miyuku 8/0 Seed Bead 1945
Mill Hill 16014 to Miyuku 6/0 Seed Bead 6-401  (Can be found at Caravan Beads)

These were all very good matches.  There is a subtle variation between MH02009 to DB 1577.  The blue in DB 1577 is ever-so-slightly less violet.  In good lighting, you can barely tell.
